    History

    Hermann var fæddur á Bíldudal 12. desember 1891. Faðir: Níels Jón Sigurðsson verkstjóri. Móðir: Halldóra Bjarney Magnúsdóttir. Hermann lauk prófi frá Verslunarskólanum. Að námi loknu réðst hann til verslunarstarfa hjá verslun Popps á Hofsósi. Hermann stundaði síðan verslunarstörf á Hofsósi og Sauðárkróki til ársins 1914. Eiginkona Hermanns var Elín Lárusdóttir (1890-1980) en þau gengu í hjónaband 31.08.1912. Árið 1914 fluttu þau búferlum í Málmey og bjuggu þar næstu fjögur árin, Hermann og Elín fluttu síðan að Ysta-Mói í Fljótum vorið 1918 og bjuggu þar það sem eftir var búskapartíð þeirra. Í fyrstu voru þau með jörðina á leigu en keyptu jörðina 1927. Hermann var hreppstjóri Haganeshrepps frá 1924 til 1970. Jafnlengi sat hann í sýslunefnd Skagafjarðarsýslu, í hreppsnefnd sat hann í 39 ár, þar af oddviti í 26 ár. Elín og Hermann eignuðust níu börn.
